Urlacher’s knee may be a bigger problem than let on

Brian Urlacher’s injured left knee may have been a bigger problem for him this offseason than previously believed.

The surgery Urlacher had on Tuesday was either the second or the third knee surgery of the year for Urlacher, according to John Mullin of CSNChicago.com.

Mullin cites two NFL sources as saying that Urlacher had surgery shortly after suffering a knee injury in the regular-season finale on January 1. It had previously been reported that Urlacher had opted for rest and rehabilitation instead of surgery.

And one source told Mullin that Urlacher actually had another procedure in the spring. Read more here…

Urlacher wants to play 2 or 3 more years, even if not in Chicago

Brian Urlacher of the Chicago Bears fully expects to be a free agent for the first time in his NFL career after the 2012 season. But he says he’s at least a few years away from calling it quits.

Urlacher, who says he’ll be ready for training camp after missing organized team activities with a knee injury, told ESPNChicago on Wednesday that he expects to play two to three more years. Brian Urlacher could be playing his final season with the Chicago Bears.
In his 13th NFL season Urlacher, who turned 34 on Friday, celebrated his birthday by proclaiming in a radio interview that he may give free agency a whirl in 2013.
“I think [Bears president] Ted Phillips said when they had the owners meeting they’re gonna wait until the season is over, Urlacher said Friday on WMVP-AM 1000, via the Sports Xchange. “See what happens, how I play.  It’s kind of exciting.  I’ve never been a free agent.  So if I can get to free agency we’ll see what happens.

Urlacher to take it easy till training camp

Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher’s recovery after spraining his ACL and MCL in Week 17 hasn’t gone as smoothly as originally hoped.

It was supposed to be about 10 weeks for Urlacher to be back to work, but he sat out the first day of Organized Team Activities on Tuesday and he’s not likely to be a participant in any future OTAs either.
